Saturday 31 May 2003: New YorkStarting tomorrow I'm going on a 5-day vacation to the United States. I will get in an airplane to New York very early tomorrow morning. I won't be able to update my site for a small week.

I've put tomorrow's charts on the site already. There There by Radiohead still leads the singleschart, but at the albumschart their cd Hail To The Thief has been knocked of the first place by Electric Six' Fire.

MP3 Of The Day: Interpol - NYC
This song seems appropriate. Last year Joy Division seemed resurrected when the debutalbum Turn On The Bright Lights by Interpol was released. The song NYC is also featured on the Yes New York compilation, which also contains songs by The Strokes, Radio 4, The Walkmen and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists op staan. The last song Year To Be Hated is made by Unitard, the side-project of Karen O. and Nick Zinner of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. (AllMusic Entry)

Friday 30 May 2003: Greenberry WoodsI've bought a new cd today, Big Money Item by The Greenberry Woods.

MP3 Of The Day: Lilys - The Dunes
The Lilys mostly consists out of singer/songwriter Kurt Heasley, who is the only permanent bandmember. Throughout the years the Philadelphian band has released albums on renowned labels like spinART, Darla and, in the case of the latest record Precollection, Manifesto. The first album in four years reached the same level as the Lilys-classics Eccsame The Photon Band and Better Can't Make Your Life Better. You can download a taster from the Insound website. (AllMusic Entry)

Thursday 29 May 2003: Questions And AnswersThe latest single of the forthcoming second Biffy Clyro album Vertigo Of Bliss is called Questions And Answers. You can listen to the song here and the video is also online (LO/ HI). The new album will hit the stores on the 16th of June.

MP3 Of The Day: Biffy Clyro - 27
Despite the very negative review at AllMusic Biffy Clyro's Blackened Sky was one of my favourite debutalbum last year. The singles 27 and 57 are the highlights of the record. Not only are the titles very similar, musically they are also very alike. The songs were recorded on the same day. The new album Vertigo Of Bliss has been recorded in one day entirely, so I hope it hasn't become too monotone. (AllMusic Entry)

Wednesday 28 May 2003: ExamsI'm glad I've did my last written examination today. Too bad I'm stuck in a system in which I have to do oral examinations too, in about a month.

MP3 Of The Day:
Early Day Miners - New Holland
Early Day Miners has sprung from the Slint-like band Ativin. Last month they released their third cd Jefferson at Rest on the Secretly Canadian-label (Songs:Ohia, Swearing At Motorists). The group from Indiana has put more rocksongs on the album, like New Holland for example. Thanks to Out There by Kindamuzik. (AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 27 May 2003: At The Drive-InI was listening to my playlist today and One Armed Scissor by At The Drive-In came along. Because it's such a good song there's an MP3 by a band that unfortunately doesn't exist anymore.

MP3 Of The Day:
At The Drive-In - One Armed Scissor
Although the members of At The Drive-In have succesfully continued their careers with Sparta and The Mars Volta it's still a shame they split after only four albums. For the ones that aren't familiar with this band, One Armed Scissor is the standout track of ATDI's magnum opus, Relationship of Command from 2000. Even before the term emo became common parlance the band from El Paso, Texas made beautiful emotional songs with screaming vocals and stilted guitar-outbursts. (AllMusic Entry)

Sunday 25 May 2003: Singles and albumsI have updated the singles- and albums-charts again. Radiohead still leads both the singles (There There) as the albums (Hail To The Thief), although Electric Six has already reached the third place at the albums chart after only two weeks. The highest new entry at that chart is Eastern Lane, at the singles that is Guided By Voices (see yesterday's news).

MP3 Of The Day: Enon - Natural Disasters
The new album of Enon, Hocus Pocus, is due to be released this Fall, but first they're releasing In This City as a single. That song is coming from last years High Society album, on which the New Yorkers sound like a mixture between The Dismemberment Plan and The Apples In Stereo. You can also find the song Natural Disasters on that cd. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 24 May 2003: Guided By Voices MP3The fifteenth (I may be off one or two) album by Guided By Voices is coming out in August. The record is going to be called Earthquake Glue. It has 15 tracks, of which My Kind Of Soldier will be the first single.

MP3 Of The Day:
Guided By Voices - My Kind Of Soldier
During a free day on the tour with Cheap Trick Guided By Voices ducked in Steve Albini's studio in Chicago. The result is the song My Kind Of Soldier, which was added to the tracklisting of the forthcoming album on the last moment. Like I said, that song will also become the first single of the album. (AllMusic Entry)

Friday 23 May 2003: PinbackPinback is going to release a lot of new material over the next months. First there is an five-song-EP that will be released through the Absolutely Kosher label. The record is called Offcell and will come out at the 10th of June. A second EP will be put out on the Ace Fu a little later. After that the band will start working on their third album, which is going to be distributed by Touch & Go. The EP's will only be spread across North America, but the album will also be available in Europe.

MP3 Of The Day: Pinback - Offline PK
Until the new cd arrives we'll have to do it with older material in Europe. The last cd of Pinback, Blue Screen Life, was released in 2001. The Shins, Built To Spill and the voice of Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes meet in the beautiful openingsong Offline PK. (AllMusic Entry)

Thursday 22 May 2003: Exclusive Mew downloadThe Danish band Mew will release Am I Wry? No as a single on the 16th of June. On their website you can download this song for a limited period.

MP3 Of The Day: Kleenex Girl Wonder - Amelia
A few months ago frontman Graham Smith decided to pull the plug out of his band Kleenex Girl Wonder. It's a pity, because bands who can write so much great songs in such a short period are very rare. Yeah, Guided By Voices perhaps, with whome Smith played a couple of years ago during the tour for Isolation Drills. The old label of KGW, March Records, still has some of their songs on it's website, including the beautiful Amelia. (AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 20 May 2003: More Haven newsAs I reported yesterday Haven is back in the studio. The result, the single Tell Me, is a great song again. You can listen to it through the renovated official Haven website with both RealPlayer and Windows Media. Like the forthcoming second record (working title What Love Is, expected in September), Tell Me has been produced by Dave Eringa (3 Colours Red, Lowgold, Idlewild and Manic Street Preachers). The single will be released on the 7th of July through Radiate Records on both CD, DVD as vinyl.

MP3 Of The Day: Kaito - Go
Today the new album Band Red by the British foursome Kaito is being released in the United States. Unfortunately that's on the spinART-label, for they don't offer free MP3's by their artists. There are, however, some downloads on Kaito's website, for example the single from their first album You've Seen Us... You Must Have Seen Us... called Go. (AllMusic Entry)

Monday 19 May 2003: New single HavenHaven is releasing a new single, which is titled Tell Me, next month. That's about all I know, as even the official site doesn't have this news yet.

MP3 Of The Day:
The Special Goodness - Life Goes By
This year the first new cd from The Special Goodness since the self-titled debutalbum from 1998 came out. The Special Goodness is the hobby-band of Weezer-drummer Patrick Wilson. He's traded his drums for a guitar and a keyboard, while Atom Willard (Rocket From The Crypt, Moth) takes the spot behind the drums. The new record Land Air Sea is promoted by a tour with The Foo Fighters. (AllMusic Entry)

Sunday 18 May 2003: ChartsThe charts are updated again. At both the singles- as the albums-chart Radiohead has reached the first place. Both charts have four new entries. At the singles Fountains Of Wayne enters at the highest place, at the albums that's Electric Six.

MP3 Of The Day:
Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage!
Danger! High Voltage! by Electric Six dates from the time when they were still called The Wildbunch. Yet it took until the beginning of this year for it to become a worldwide hit. The crossover between disco and rock doesn't only come forward in their music, the albumcover of their debutalbum Fire is also a great example. With that album the Detroit quartet proves that they're not just a one-hit wonder. Songs like Gay Bar, Dance Commander and Improper Dancing are also potential mainstream hits. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 17 May 2003: Muse news? The first single of the forthcoming third studioalbum by Muse will probably be released somewhere in June. The as yet untitled album itself isn't going to come out until September at the earliest. The singles Dead Star and In Your World, which where featured on the live-cd Hullaballoo, won't appear on the new record. It appears that Muse has used a variety of original instruments on some of the new tracks.

MP3 Of The Day: Muse - Plug In Baby
In 1999 three boys from Devon, Engeland under the name Muse released their debutalbum Showbiz. In 2001 the follow-up Origin Of Symmetry even got mainstream attention. The singles Plug In Baby, New Born, Bliss and Feeling Good received plenty of airplay. The first song is available for download through the German MTV-site. (AllMusic Entry)

Friday 16 May 2003: New single 3 Colours RedOne of the best bands in British rockhistory is back. Because 3 Colours Red is coming with a new single, titled Fade To Return. Tomorrow exactly three years ago This Is My Time was released, after which the band decided to split. Because singer/bassist Pete Vuckovic got excited over new material by guitarist Chris McCormack, they decided to re-form the group. Keith Baxter is back as drummer, but second guitarist Ben Harding has been replaced by Paul Grant. The new single will appear on 2 June on the Mighty Atom label, that also has signed Funeral For A Friend and Liberty 37. When the third album by the Londoners will be released or what it's called is yet to be decided.

MP3 Of The Day: 3 Colours Red - Sixty Mile Smile
The British band 3 Colours Red had average succes in their own country with singles like Beautiful Day and Sixty Mile Smile at the end of the nineties. In 1999 they split, but not before they played at several festivals throughout Europe, like Parkpop for example (where I got to see them). (AllMusic Entry)
