Sunday 15 June 2003: ChartsThe singles- as well as the albums-chart have been updated. The Sleepy Jackson is the only new entry on the singleslist. Stacy's Mom by Fountains Of Wayne takes over the top position from Radiohead's There There. At the albumsRadiohead has retaken the lead from Electric Six. There are four new entries.

MP3 Of The Day: Goldcard - Destroy And Recreate
With a little help from friends like Quasi, Grandaddy and Pond Charlie Campbell, alias Goldcard, has made his debut with the album Goldcard. Except for those three bands the Beach Boys and Sparklehorse are also big influences on the record. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 14 June 2003: AudioscrobblerRecently I've created an account with Audioscrobbler. This is a website where you can share your playlist by downloading a plug-in for your audioplayer. You can find my profile here. Unfortunately the site doesn't show more than one of your most recent songs.

MP3 Of The Day: The Thermals - No Culture Icons
The Thermals, a new band on the Sub Pop label, are most accurately compared with Guided By Voices. The Mountain Goats and the Strokes are also a big influence on the debut-cd More Parts Per Million by the band from Portland, also the hometown of the Dandy Warhols by the way. The single No Culture Icons was released in January of this year to precede the album, which came out in March. (AllMusic Entry)

Friday 13 June 2003: Pitchfork reviewsPitchfork agrees with me on the new ones of Radiohead and Grandaddy.

MP3 Of The Day: The Decemberists - Shiny
A lot of Neutral Milk Hotel, a little bit of Calexico and some Belle & Sebastian. Those are the ingredients for the song Shiny of the latest EP by The Decemberists. The record by the band of songwriter Colin Meloy is called Five Songs EP, and oddly enough it has 6 tracks. The mini-album is the follow-up to Castaways And Cut-Outs from 2002, which will be re-released later this year. (AllMusic Entry)

Thursday 12 June 2003: Under the RadarI've found an nice new magazine while I was in New York. It's called Under The Radar and the edition I've bought is the fourth they made. The content is unmatched. The mag has 111 pages and features interviews with Elliott Smith, Cat Power, Badly Drawn Boy, Blur and Supergrass, but to name a few. Also very interesting are the articles about what they label artists to watch. The Coral, My Morning Jacket, The Raveonettes and The Postal Service are just a small part of the selected acts. Other features include a special about shoegazing from the past (Lush, Ride, Slowdive) and the present (Longwave, The Stratford 4) and of course the obligatory reviews.

MP3 Of The Day: Clem Snide - All Green
A few months ago I have already mentioned Clem Snide on this site with their song Moment In The Sun. Today Clem Snide becomes the first act to get the MP3 Of The Day for the second time. The latest record by the New Jersey-based band is called Soft Spot. The Jayhawks-esque song All Green is available for download at the website of the band. (AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 10 June 2003: Record collection updatedAs promised I've added my recent New York purchases to the record collection page today.

MP3 Of The Day: The Catheters - I Fall Easy
The Catheters prove that grunge isn't dead. This formation from Seattle (of course) has recorded two full cd's since 1999. The first self-titled album appeared on Empty Records (Dead Moon, Mudhoney, Murder City Devils). The second album, Static Delusions And Stone-Still Days, was released by the Sub Pop label (of course). In February of this year The Catheters toured through the United States together with Division Of Laura Lee and Burning Brides. Whether it's a coincidence or not I'm not sure, but last week I've bought a cd of all three of them. (AllMusic Entry)

Monday 9 June 2003: Linkspage updatedThe linkspage has been updated again. Tomorrow I will add my recently purchased albums to my record collection page.

MP3 Of The Day: The Hidden Cameras - A Miracle
Back in 2001, the song A Miracle by The Hidden Cameras was already featured on the Ecce Homo album, which was only released on a small basis. That album did manage to attract the attention of the Rough Trade label, on which the new album The Smell Of Our Own came out last April. The Hidden Cameras make acoustic indiepop like The Magnetic Fields and Belle & Sebastian also make. Their live-shows are legendary, much strippers and dancers in combination with a multimedial show with film and music of course. (AllMusic Entry)

Sunday 8 June 2003: New chartsMy personal charts have been updated again. The albumschart is still being led by Electric 6. The highest new entry is Cat Power's You Are Free, read more about her below. Radiohead is at the first place for the fourth week in a row at the singleschart with There There. Pass It On by The Coral is the highest newcomer.

MP3 Of The Day: Cat Power - He War
I have to admit that I'm more open to male singers than to female singers. I don't think it's entirely my fault, because there aren't many female singer/songwriters who raise above the level of let's say Alanis Morissette or Sheryl Crow. An exception is the American Chan Marshall, better known under her alias Cat Power. The beginning of this year saw the release of You Are Free, the long expected follow-up of her last regular album Moon Pix (in 2000 The Covers Record came out, which only featured cover songs). The first single of You Are Free is He War. You can watch the video of this song on the website of recordlabel Matador. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 7 June 2003: Back from New YorkTwo days ago I've landed on Schiphol again. My first time in New York was very impressive. Of course I saw as much sights as possible, like Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Staten Island Ferry and Chinatown. I've also walked towards Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge, which gives a great view over the skyline. My dad and I also visited some of the local record stores, which turned out to be very cheap over there. I've added 33 new cd's to my record collection. These are my new purchases:

MP3 Of The Day:
White Light Motorcade - It's Happening
A New York-based band who should get a little more attention is White Light Motorcade. It's one of the better bands lifting along on the New Rock Revolution. The band borrows more from The Strokes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club than they do from The White Stripes. The single It's Happening gives an idea of their debutalbum Thank You, Goodnight!.
