Friday 15 August 2003: Tracklist New StrokesThe follow-up to 2001's Is This It? has been completed. After the failed session with Radiohead-producer Nigel Godrich the band decided to hit the studios with Gordon Raphael again. RCA will release the new album on October the 21st. You can find the whole tracklist on Pitchfork. The first single will probably be Supernova.

MP3 Of The Day:
Okkervil River - The War Criminal Rises And Speaks
The Texas-based band Okkervil River is an epigone of mainly Will Oldham, Neutral Milk Hotel and Bright Eyes during Lifted. Their third album, Down The River Of Golden Dreams, does again not manage to maintain a high standard throughout the entire record. One of the better amongst the eleven songs is The War Criminal Rises And Speaks. Luckily, the band has already posted this song on their website. The new cd will be released on September the 2nd. (AllMusic Entry)

Wednesday 13 August 2003: Muse ArtworkThe artwork of Muse' new album Absolution, that will be released on september the 22nd, has been created by Storm Thorgerson. The front looks like this:

MP3 Of The Day: Sense Field - I Refuse
In 2001 Sense Field, that used to be a punk-band, released their album Tonight And Forever, which is at least very approachable. The die-hard fans got estranged from the band, mainly because of the commercial songs like Save Yourself. On the new album Living Outside the concept of it's predecessor is pushed on. Bad news for the old fans, but it will probably boost the record sales. Download the song I Refuse from the new record. (AllMusic Entry)

Monday 11 August 2003: ChartsIt's one day too late, but now the new charts are finally on the site. The Thermals are still holding the top-position on the singleschart. After the download-single Stockholm Syndrome the first regular Muse-single from Absolution Time Is Running Out has entered the chart. The Mars Volta have taken over the first place on the albumschart. Starsailor's Silence Is Easy is the highest new entry at the 19th place.

MP3 Of The Day: The Long Winters - Stupid
Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), Blake Wescott (Pedro The Lion) and the Posies-duo Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer are just a few of the guests on John Roderick's new record. He has recently completed his second under his alias The Long Winters. Stupid comes from When I Pretend To Fall, on which Built To Spill, Pavement, R.E.M. and Of Montreal sound through, but which also has an own sound. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 9 August 2003: Super Furry AnimalsNo news. Just a new song.

MP3 Of The Day:
Super Furry Animals - Liberty Belle
One of the standout tracks on Phantom Power, the latest album by the Welsh band Super Furry Animals. (AllMusic Entry)

Thursday 7 August 2003: Jack White's fingerFans of medical series like ER who happen to have a taste in music will be happy that Jack White has taped his finger operation. Do you want to know what the finger of the White Stripes' singer looks like from the inside? Than you should download this little fragment.

MP3 Of The Day: Grandaddy - Now It's On
Sumday, the most recent cd of Grandaddy, has been in my albumchart for months. And the single Now It's On was also listed for quite some time. So people who aren't familiar with Grandaddy, shouldn't be allowed at my page. Or they should immediately download this song. And the same thing applies for the ones that do know Grandaddy, but haven't heard the new album yet. (AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 5 August 2003: The new chartsAs promised I've updated the album- and single- chart yesterday. The Thermals have survived my weeks off and still lead both charts. The highest new entries are Crazy Beat by Blur at the singles-chart and Take Them On, On Your Own by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the albums-chart. Both enter the list at the fourth place.

Joris Gillet of the Stereo weblog has put the new version of the Stereo MP3 DIY CD's on his site. Amongst the 20 tracks there are MP3's by KaitO, The Thermals, The Essex Green, Goldcard and Maximilian Hecker. I've taken over the song by Panthers as the MP3 Of The Day.

MP3 Of The Day: Panthers - Don't Be A Dick
Panthers is a Brooklyn-based band that resembles both Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Fugazi. They have performed with their fellow New Yorkers The Liars, The Rapture and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. That is about all I know of this band, because I only know them for two days. The nice song Don't Be A Dick comes from the EP Let's Get Serious. (AllMusic Entry)

Sunday 3 August 2003: Back from holidayMy holiday is over. After three weeks in Zeeland I'm back home. When I opened the mail I received some good news. I've been accepted at the School For Journalism. So over the next four years the quality of this weblog will keep rising. Unfortunately it means I'm going to have a lot less spare time, so I won't be able to work on my weblog as often as I did up to now. I am, however, still busy replacing my site to a less advertising-controlled server. Later more.

Tomorrow I will add the cd's to my online record collection. The new album- and single- charts are also delayed until tomorrow, so I can listen to some new music first.

MP3 Of The Day:
The Raveonettes - That Great Love Sound
The Raveonettes-cd Whip It On was one of the best debutalbums of last year. On it's follow-up Chain Gang Of Love, which is released at the end of this month, The Jesus & Mary Chain remains a big influence. For instance, listen to the first single That Great Love Sound, which you can download for free from the Raveonettes-website for a limited time. (AllMusic Entry)
