Saturday 13 September 2003: Strokes MP3I received a new cd by mail yesterday. It's the untitled promo-cd of F33L3R. The record features 7 fairly accessible songs, which would be nice b-sides for a Live-single. Maybe this band will get a hitsingle in Holland someday.

Last thursday I was in the Melkweg to see The Mars Volta play. The afro's from El Paso put down a great show. The highlight of the evening was the great performance of Roulette Dares (This Is The Haunt), on which both singer Cedric Bixler as guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez showed their great ability.

MP3 Of The Day: The Strokes - 12:51
Room On Fire, the new album from The Strokes, will come out on October the 21st. The record will be preceded by the single 12:51, which will be in stores on the 6th of the same month. The band didn't use the new album to make major changes to their sound. 12:51 for example is very similar to Hard To Explain from the New York-based band's debut, Is This It?. It is good to see that an established band like The Strokes is willing to put a song on their site for fans to download. Especially since it is the new single. (AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 9 september 2003: Finally! A new updateI've bought/got some nice new cd's over the past few days. Since this week Forever Changes by Love, Lost In Revelry by The Mendoza Line, Blue Screen Life by Pinback, Kid A by Radiohead and A Series Of Sneaks by Spoon are also a part of my collection.

The show by Kaizers Orchestra in the Rotown was one of the best shows I've seen this year. An organist who was banging on oilbarrels with a gasmask on was really something I haven't seen before. Next thursday I'm going to The Mars Volta in the Melkweg.

MP3 Of The Day:
Centro-matic - Flashes And Cables
For a band that started off as a side-project, Centro-matic has attained a very respectable place in the indie-scene. Singer/songwriter Will Johnson is making pure indie rock with this band. With South San Gabriel he shows his alt.country-side and he has also recorded a solo-album last year. This month Love You Just The Same is being released in America, which features the song Flashes And Cables. It's Centro-matic's 8th album since 1996. (AllMusic Entry)

Saturday 30 August 2003: New cd'sOne day in Leiden has resulted in six new cd's for me. Le Louping by The Furtips, Unreal World by The Godfathers and Rapple Dapple by The Greenberry Woods cost me one euro. I paid twice as much for From Here And On by Bombshell Rocks, United By Fate by Rival Schools and Leaving Through The Window by Something Corporate.

Tonight I'm going to the Kaizers Orchestra show in the Rotown in Rotterdam. It's supposed to be the best live-act from Norway, but I have just heard a couple of their songs. Hopefully they will be able to convince me tonight.

Tomorrow I'm celebrating my birthday (I'm turning 19 on the 4th of September) in Amsterdam and the introductionweek on the School for Journalism starts on monday. So I won't update the site for a week or so. The new charts are also delayed for a week. See you next weekend.

MP3 Of The Day: Furtips - Two Things About Cars
Just like the much better known Bettie Serveert, The Furtips are formed out of the remains of de Artsen, who have made one of the best Dutch records ever with their Conny Waves With A Shell. The second cd of The Furtips, Le Louping was released by the American Animal World label, which also released cd's by The Bingo Trappers. The one and a half minute song Two Things About Cars is featured as an MP3 on the Arnhem-based band's site. (AllMusic Entry)

Thursday 28 August 2003: Listening PolesBoth 3voor12's Luisterpaal (it's Dutch, but you'll figure it out) and XFM's Listening Post have some new cd's to offer. 3voor12 has put the new records by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, Guided By Voices and Sergeant Petter on their site. Echoes by The Rapture is really worth listening to on the XFM site.

MP3 Of The Day: Voicst - Acts Of Fire
Voicst is perhaps the best Dutch band at the moment. Last month they already earned a MP3 Of The Day with their contribution to the MP3Voor12 compilation, We Are On A Chemical Push. Now that their EP Eat The Evidence is in the stores Acts Of Fire deserves some attention. The members of Nada Surf are already fallen for the energy of this band from Amsterdam. (No AllMusic Entry)

Tuesday 26 August 2003: New chartsThe new album- and single-charts are on the site since yesterday-evening. Both the first places are still being held by Muse. The Don Henley-cover The Boys Of Summer by The Ataris is the highest new entry at the singleschart at the fifth place. At the albumschart that is Chutes Too Narrow, the new The Shins album, on number 9.

MP3 Of The Day: Beulah - A Man Like Me
The fourth cd by Beulah on September 9th. The record will be called Yoko, which might have something to do with the fact that three of the bands' members have gone through a divorce last year. Beulah's sound is still somewhere between Elf Power and The Olivia Tremor Control on the new record. Opening track A Man Like Me is a new song on the long list of great songs sprouting from the Elephant 6-scene. (AllMusic Entry)

Monday 25 August 2003: I'm backThe problems with my internet connection are over. I'm now able to update the site again. Come back tomorrow to see this weeks chart and a new MP3 Of The Day.
Sunday 17 August 2003: New cd's and chartsThe new album- and single-chart are on the site again. The singles are now being led by Muse with Stockholm Syndrome. The English band has also taken over the first place at the albums with Absolution. The highest new entries are respectively Supergrass with Rush Hour Soul and Serafin with No Push Collide. Cast Of Thousands by Elbow has also entered the albumschart again. This is mostly due to the fact that I am mentioned in the thank you-notes. Go and see it for yourself in a recordstore near you.

Yesterday I have also bought some new cd's at a record fair here in Gouda for 1 euro a piece. There are a few very good buys amongst them, as you can see below (Oh, and Niels: now I own the other Strangelove-cd myself too).

Bingo Trappers - Juanita Ave.
Bright Blue Gorilla - Mantra For The American Jungle
French Kicks - One Time Bells (from 2003 n.b.)
Inspiral Carpets - Devil Hopping
Ladybug Transistor - The Albemarle Sound
Lilys - Better Can't Make Your Life Better
Lotion - Nobody's Cool
Love As Laughter - Sea To Shining Sea (Promo)
Oneida - Enemy Hogs
Pond - Pond
Redd Kross - Third Eye
Selofane 74 - Selofane 74
Strangelove - Love And Other Demons
Symposium - One Day At A Time
Trust Company - The Lonely Position Of Neutral
You Am I - Hi Fi Way

MP3 Of The Day:
The Ladybug Transistor - Today Knows
Like I said above, I've bought a Ladybug Transistor cd yesterday. This Elephant 6-band will release a self-titled album in October. A song that is a bit older is Today Knows, which is written around a waltz-rhythm and almost just as beautiful as Elliott Smith's Waltz #2. (AllMusic Entry)
